A friend of mine recently shared some photos from her visit at a stunning sunflower farm north of Atlanta. I immediately was inspired and searched for the farm, only to discover they closed the following weekend! So, I messaged my favorite model and close friend (Nikki Thompson) and we planned a quick photoshoot.
As a bonus, Nikki mentioned that they might want to wear their Tohru cosplay from the show Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. I was thrilled about the idea because I have been itching to do more cosplay photography. The day came as we made our way into the flowery field, receiving lots of long stares as we entered. This confused me but I quickly remembered why when I looked at Nikki’s yellow contacts, fangs, long blonde wig, and makeshift horns. We laughed and ignored the glances because well… it’s something you grow used to when you cosplay in public.
For me, it has always been easier to direct a model who is dressed as a character rather than themselves. It also helps that the character Tohru is very special to Nikki. Tohru is always very cheerful and kind to everyone she meets. The sunflower fields were a perfect backdrop to match her sunny disposition. When cosplaying, we usually choose characters that we relate to or aspire ourselves to be. Anyone who gets the chance to meet them can see that Nikki is just as kind, sweet, and cheerful as Tohru.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Taylor, you said you were going to post a monthly photoblog, it’s been three months and now we’re just getting another set of photos of your friends with flowers?” Well, I wanted this to blog be a hobby as well as an artistic outlet for me. I wanted it to be a stress free and fun way to share my photography. But I also can’t just take photos and post them willy nilly. I inted for each to be a series and I want them to excite me as an artist. And right now, my friends and the spring/summer flora is what excites me.
However, I do have some future photoshoots planned in the next few months and I can’t wait to share them with you guys! Until then, enjoy these sunny pictures!
